This is a Florida native you don’t want challenge to a shouting contest. A crane’s windpipe (trachea) can measure 5 ft. (15 m) long if stretched out, letting them make sounds that can be heard miles away. This noisy bird is often found in backyards looking for bugs and grubs, but sometimes it wanders onto pavement. Sea World rescues many cranes every year injured by cars and even some that are illegally shot with arrows and bullets. To make some noise for crane conservation slow down and watch for wildlife on the roads, clean up trash in your neighborhood and never feed cranes or other wild animals.
